Led by Ambassador Prince Kojo-Hilton, this track teaches the discipline of the art department: reading a script visually, designing worlds and delivering them on budget and on schedule.

Curriculum
12 weeks · Film Art Direction & Production Design · 6 structured modules
- The Production Designer / Art Director and their responsibilities
- The film art department: structure, roles and terminology
- Screening: Singin' in the Rain
Practical assignments
- Abstract composition from a natural shape: varied shape, depth and centre of interest (Week 3)
- Three compositions in rectangular and circular shapes showing position, direction and gravity (Week 5)
- Concentration of unit forms, plus a measured floor plan drafted from a supplied sketch (Week 6)
- Scale model of the previous sketch with elevations and one construction detail drawing (Week 8)
- Four-part colour project: value, chroma, monochromatic, complementary and neutral schemes
- Final test on art-direction definitions and terminology, plus a portfolio piece
Learning outcomes
- Understand the role and core responsibilities of the Production Designer / Art Director
- Manipulate the elements of design and communicate a design to the director and production team
- Handle the technical considerations of construction, staging, camera, lighting and electronic effects
- Work in teams through the full design process, from concept to finished output
- Determine appropriate concepts, materials, tools and skills to solve design problems
- Present a professional portfolio piece to industry standard
